How Are You Going to Discover Your True Self?

How Are You Going to Discover Your True Self?

What Smothers Your True Self?  7 Stumbling Blocks Are you like a fake diamond you get out of a bubble gum machine or are you like the Hope Diamond in the Smithsonian Museum? Contemplate the 7 stumbling blocks below by reflecting back on a time these have happened to you and what you would do differently right now! Fear:  We are scared of being hurt, ridiculed and not accepted, so we conform and smother our true self. It is easier to be what people WANT us to be. Doubt: When dreaming about success in one form or another you talk yourself out of it, you don’t attempt to make it a reality. You doubt your ability to succeed. Conformity Is Easier: It is hard to be different and stick out in a crowd because of the judgment and rejection of others. We want

Spring Forward: It’s Time to Forgive!

Spring Forward: It’s Time to Forgive!

Spring is such a great time to renew yourself! I read a quote a while ago that said; “Hating someone is like taking your own poison.” We all have been deeply hurt by someone. It is difficult to let go because we justify our perspective, but that keeps our pain from moving through us so we can heal. But we must forgive if we want to live a wholehearted and happy life! A great book to read on forgiveness is; The Book of Forgiving, by Desmond Tutu and his daughter Mpho Tutu. They provide a pathway to forgiveness I have personally applied to my life and I found this process extremely helpful. There are four pathways to forgiving; 1.) Telling the Story 2.) Naming the Hurt 3.) Granting Forgiveness 4.) Renewing or Releasing the Relationship Forgiveness is a very personal journey that will

Getting to Know You…

Getting to Know You…

I know I am dating myself but..  Do you remember the song “Getting to Know You,” from the musical ‘The King and I’? I have always loved that song. Just recently, after singing the lyrics I had an “Ah Ha” moment. I wondered, “What if we listened to the song in a different way?  What if we were able to sing this to ourselves and stop our inner critic from taking over our thoughts and attitude towards life?” There is a quote from a book I recently read that states: What you can’t be with, won’t let you be.” We need to learn how to give ALL of who we are, permission to exist. Even parts of ourselves we don’t like. When we are able to see the dark and the light side of our personalities it allows us to become less defensive and it

My #Metoo Story

My #Metoo Story

It was May 1975; I was a sophomore in high school and had starting dating a boy for about fourth months that was a few years older than me so I guess you could say we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend.  He had asked me to go to a family get together with him on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and I will never forget the outfit I wore that day, it was a beautiful new crème colored pant suit I had just bought at the mall. It was unusual I was able to do something on a Sunday because being raised in a very conservative Catholic family all of us usually stayed home.  The day felt special to me because he wanted to include me and spend time with him; I enjoyed getting to know more about his family and being introduced as

OH MY GOSH!!!  WE BLEW IT!

OH MY GOSH!!!  WE BLEW IT!

This month has been off the chart!!  Summer is such a busy time for everyone but I had one priority before it was over and that was getting together with the women who have attended several of my workshops to show my gratitude for their insight and support!  I wanted  to do something unique and create an experience that we would all be doing for the first time, believe me it wasn’t going to be skydiving or rock climbing but an activity that would have a memory for all of us.  During my workshops these women share their stories and trust in each other; we have all laughed, cried and empathized but more importantly have grown closer together knowing that there are people in their lives that see, hear and UNDERSTAND who we truly are!  These women are talented, creative, and up for

Book Review: SAYING YES to CHANGE

Book Review: SAYING YES to CHANGE

Change is an unavoidable fact of life and most of us have a difficult time with it, right?  I bought the book “Saying Yes to Change” at the trauma conference I attended in Washington DC in March.  Dr. Joan Borksenko was a guest speaker who has her doctorate in medical sciences from Harvard; she is also a licensed clinical psychologist and co-founder of the Claritas Institute for Interspiritual Inquiry with her husband that is based on her lifelong interest in mindfulness, integrative medicine and mind/body connection.    As I listened to her during the luncheon I was very inspired by her story and the wonderful talents she brings to the world of psychology so I wanted to share part of her book with you! Joan’s purpose when she wrote about change was not to incorporate someone else’s wisdom but about finding our OWN.  CHANGE

December Retreat Was a Huge Success

The Little B Inn  in Nelsonville, Ohio was a FANTASTIC getaway for our first women’s retreat!!  The owner of the inn; Miki told us about a  wonderful surprise that was scheduled for Friday evening, we were able to sing along with the town carolers as they sang traditional Christmas carols and also to our delight we were able to witness the town square tree lighting ceremony. The women said they felt like they were in a Hallmark movie!   Saturday we began our personal intentions for the holidays and these group of women amazed me!! They shared their stories and intentions which was what the retreat was all about… being able to trust yourself to tell the truth… we all felt closer to each other because of this special bonding experience.  Saturday night we went out to a fabulous restaurant that is sponsored by a cooking school nearby and the food was unbelievably tasty and fresh!!  Afterwards, the women shopped the
